With a small matter of my first Marathon the 18th December at Portsmouth Coastal, 2016 racing is nearly over for me.
This time of the year seems to be the time when most events open their race entries for the following year. Therefore this is when we all start planning our race calendars. Oh boy it’s exciting but expensive!
Among other races I have planned or I’m thinking of entering, my “A” races (yes I know, three races rather than one!) are the ones below. The Mascaraignes race in La Reunion would be a dream race but there is plenty to organise first. Not only the beauty of it for a Trail race but I would also be running it with my 70 year old father, my sister and my brother (they all live there, in the middle of the Indian Ocean!). I believe my father thinks this could be his last big race, and therefore the last chance to all run together, and in an epic race. One to remember.
June – Race To The Kings
September – Ironman70.3 Weymouth
As well as races, I’m going to set challenges, personal ones and family orientated ones.
I have some ideas on the personal challenges but are not set yet. I’m sure I’ll announce and write about them in due course.
As for the family orientated ones, this is something new I want to achieve on a monthly basis for the all of 2017. Before you ask, as a family, we do take them out of the house! but I want us to go out and have fun doing activities we don’t usually do, whether it’s long cycling rides, sailing, dry slop skiing, rock climbing, canoeing, and the list goes on.
Is it a Challenge? This days children are more interesting in technology than climbing trees and at 11, 14 & 16 it will be a push to get them out for some of those activities. Those with children will understand he says with hope! I also want our children to be more aware and more understanding of the importance of being healthy and stay fit, and I believe being outdoors more will do that for them.
More will be revealed! Have a good weekend!
